The perfumers
Behind every fragrance, there is an author. The perfumer — the “nose”, in the vocabulary of the trade — composes a formula the way one writes a score: through balance, through contrast, and often over several years. Some are employed by a fashion house, others work for the large compositional laboratories (Firmenich, Givaudan, IFF) that supply most brands.
28 noses are credited so far on OLFACT, for 83 fragrances. The perfumer’s credit is not disclosed by every house: this list grows as the data is verified, and does not claim to be exhaustive.
